Makeup Tutorial for Beginners: An Easy Step-by-Step Everyday Routine
Makeup Tutorial for Beginners: An Easy Step-by-Step Everyday Routine

If makeup has ever felt a little overwhelming, you are not alone.
There are so many products, brushes, trends, tutorials, and “must-have” steps. It can be hard to know where to begin. And when life is already full with work, family, appointments, errands, and everything in between, a 45-minute full-glam routine is not always realistic.
That is exactly why beginner makeup should feel simple.
At Glass House Cosmetics, we believe beauty and wellness work together. Makeup can be a small, enjoyable moment in your day. It can help you feel more awake, more confident, and more like yourself.
It does not need to cover who you are.
It should help you feel like you.
As a mom, wife, and entrepreneur, I know how busy real life can be. Glass House was created for real women and real routines. The women getting ready for work. The moms squeezing in five minutes before school drop-off. The professionals heading into a full day. The women who want to feel polished without feeling overdone.
Here is a beginner-friendly, step-by-step routine you can follow right at the mirror.
Nothing intimidating. Nothing overdone. Just an easy everyday approach that helps you feel a little more polished, a little more awake, and still like yourself.
What You Need to Start
You do not need a huge makeup bag to begin.
For this routine, keep it simple:
- Moisturizer
- SPF for daytime
- A light base, skin tint, or concealer
- A blush
- A lip balm, gloss, or easy lipstick
- Glass House Cosmetics Automatic Brow Pencil
- Hyaluronic Clear Brow Gel
That is enough.
If you are brand new, start with products that feel easy to use and easy to fix. You can always build from there.
1. Prep Your Skin
The best makeup routine begins before makeup.
Start with clean skin, your moisturizer, and SPF during the day. You do not need a complicated routine. You just want your skin to feel comfortable so your makeup sits nicely on top.
Try this:
- Cleanse your skin gently.
- Apply your usual moisturizer.
- Use SPF in the daytime.
- Wait a minute before going in with makeup.
That small pause helps more than people think.
For beginners, the goal is not perfect skin. The goal is skin that still looks like skin.
Start with care. Then add colour.
2. Apply a Light Base or Concealer
You do not need full-coverage foundation to look put together.
For an everyday routine, try a skin tint, tinted moisturizer, BB cream, or just concealer where you want a little extra support. This step should feel light, easy, and forgiving.
Here is a simple way to do it:
- Start with a small amount of product.
- Place it where you want the most coverage, usually around the centre of the face.
- Blend outward with your fingers, a sponge, or a brush.
- Add concealer under the eyes, around the nose, or over any spots if you want a little more coverage.
- Tap, do not rub, so the product stays soft and fresh on the skin.
Start with less than you think you need.
Then build in thin layers only where needed. It is much easier to add than to take away.
A simple base should help you feel more comfortable, not make you feel like you are wearing a mask.

3. Shape and Set Your Brows
Brows can make a big difference, even when you are wearing very little makeup.
They frame the face and help you look a little more awake and polished. The good news is that you do not need to create a brand new brow. Start with what you already have.
Step by step:
- Brush your brows upward and outward.
- Look for any sparse areas, mostly through the middle or tail.
- Use the Glass House Cosmetics Automatic Brow Pencil to fill those spots with short, feathery strokes.
- Keep a light hand. Avoid drawing one harsh line.
- Use less product at the front of the brow so the finish stays soft.
- If anything looks too strong, brush through again to soften it.
Think:
- Short feathery strokes.
- A light hand.
- Build in thin layers.
- Less at the front, more through the middle and tail.
And remember, brows are sisters, not twins.
Once you are happy with the shape, brush through the Hyaluronic Clear Brow Gel to hold everything in place. It keeps brows looking fresh, neat, and everyday-easy.

4. Add a Touch of Colour
Once your base and brows are done, add a little colour to bring the face back to life.
For many beginners, blush is the easiest place to start. Choose a soft pink, peach, or rose shade. Smile gently, tap a small amount onto the cheeks, and blend upward.
Start with less product than you think.
You can always add more. It is much easier to build than to blend away too much.
For lips, choose something comfortable and low-pressure. A tinted balm, gloss, or your-lips-but-better lipstick is perfect for everyday wear. Swipe it on straight from the tube or tap it in with your finger for a softer look.
That is enough for a fresh, everyday finish.
Simple is not less beautiful. Simple is sustainable.
5. Finish and Make It a Habit
The most useful makeup routine is the one that works on a busy Tuesday.
Once you finish your base, brows, blush, and lips, take a look in natural light if you can. If you want a little more coverage or colour, add it slowly. Build in thin layers. A little at a time keeps everything looking soft and wearable.
Then make the routine easy to repeat:
- Keep your everyday products together in one small bag or basket.
- Give yourself five to ten minutes.
- Practise one step at a time until it feels natural.
- Clean your brushes regularly.
- Remove your makeup before bed.
And be kind to yourself while you learn.
Makeup is a skill. No one starts as an expert. The women we are becoming are allowed to practise, change their minds, try again, and find a routine that feels like their own.
If you have searched for makeup classes for beginners, you are probably not alone in wanting a little extra guidance. Some women love learning in person with a makeup artist and some prefer a video so they can refer back to. Glass House is not running beginner classes yet, but if that is something you would like to hear about later, you are always welcome to email info@glasshousecosmetics.ca and be the first to know if we announce them.
Glass House offers local pickup in St Thomas, and Woodstock pickup can be arranged by email. You can also explore Julia’s curated Glass House collection for simple, everyday beauty essentials.
No pressure. No perfection.
Because makeup is not about becoming someone else.
It is about celebrating the woman you are today, and inspiring the woman you are becoming.
