Products and Trends I am Loving (and what I am leaving behind) in 2025
Share
If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I will try anything once and I’m a total beauty junkie. Seriously, if it's interesting or trending, I’m likely to try it—no questions asked. I’m the type of person who’s always hunting for something fun and new in the beauty space- so it should really be no surprise my name is slapped on Glass House Cosmetics as co-founder- I am genuinely obsessed with the beauty scene and I want to know MORE always! You name it, I’ve probably tested it (or will be soon). Some things I love, some things I regret, but every experiment is a fun learning experience. I should add, that my preferences have changed over the last couple years. I am really leaning in to natural, unnatural beauty. I know, it sounds insane. But basically this idea adopts minimalist practises to ensure top-tier glowing HEALTHY skin from within (and hair, and nails, and and and)....without looking like I've tried very hard at all. Think: beachy undone waves in your hair, glowing skin, no mascara, glossy dewy lips, a subtle fake tan- never orange or over the top. So buckle up, because today I’m sharing all the beauty products and trends I’m loving, some I am about to try, and some I’m happily leaving behind.
1. Skinceuticals SPF 50 tinted moisturizer. I actually started using this product in 2019, at the height of my cystic acne issues, and I've never looked back. It's hydrating, it protects, it gives you a nice glow and does not break you out (and if you have existing breakouts, it does not make them worse). I love this because SPF may be the very thing that is keeping the Millenial and Gen-Z generations looking refreshed for decades longer than our parents and grandparents. We simply have the knowledge AND the tools. Don't sleep on this one!! I buy mine from medispas where available or direct from www.skinceuticals.ca
2. I'm obviously going to shameless plug our BB Cream. After all, there is a reason it has been our best selling product for 4 years running (hoping for 5). It has mineral SPF 18- so while not enough to protect you from the sun for a full day at the beach, it does provide a little something that's better than nothing, all the while hydrating your skin and giving you a lovely coverage that's light, but buildable. I've ditched foundation entirely thanks to this bad boy, as I find foundation to be too cakey, pore clogging, and expensive. It's just not the vibe. I want my skin to look like skin but BETTER, and that's exactly what we've achieved with this makeup bag staple.
3. You guys know I love to keep it real with you, and this is perhaps one of the questions we get asked the most: what non- Glass House Cosmetics products do Kait and Sara use? Really? I'll tell you- I won't dare put anything else on my FACE. Nope, nope nope. I only trust the loyal steeds listed at numbers 1 and 2 above for my skin. But for my lips? Well I am a lippy collector at heart- which is exactly what inspired this biz when we initially began as an all encompassing lip products ONLY endeavor, and right now, I am absolutely loving the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm, particularly in shade Berry.
I love this because it's one of the few Sephora-esque lip balms that don't irritate my lips but above that, it delivers a wet looking, glossy punch that has a slight (and I mean slight) red tint. It makes your lips look oh-so-juicy, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't obsessed. That's not to say that I don't absolutely adore our lip balm, lip oil, or plethora of lipglosses- I am just really loving this as a basic right now. It compliments a bare face nicely, and requires zero prep or effort.
4. Mouth taping. I haven't tried this yet, but I am nothing if not an absolute sucker for my targeted ads. But for real, I always do my research on things and read unbiased reviews, blogs, etc before I spend any money on something, and I can't ignore the thousands of positive remarks people are saying about this practise. It's exactly how it sounds- you tape your mouth shut, but only when you sleep. I am sure some people would love for me to tape my mouth shut while I am awake too but idgaf. I'm trying it. Reviews claim that this snatches your jaw line, fosters better dental health, helps you fall into and stay into a better sleep (which we all know is paramount for health, wellness and beauty). My mouth tape is LITERALLY on its way to me- so I will be sure to report back with my findings.
5. Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo for dark tones. I recently went to the dark side, with my hair that is. I am finding for some reason, I cannot go as long between washes being a brunette, like I could when I was blonde. Even though my roots were rooty (I loved the lived in roots-on-purpose blonde/ bronde), I just can't help but feel like I look greasy 2 days after washing, when before I could go 4, and sometimes 5 days between washes. I feel like the fact that it's specifically made for brown tones, just helps freshen me up all the more. I try to buy mine from salons and spas in my area that are female owned, but you can also purchase this from Sephora.
6. Supplements: You can put the best products money can buy on your hair, face, and body, but it will never undo the damage that is caused to same as a result of malnutrition because you aren't giving your body the nutrients it needs. Most of us are very busy and don't necessarily have the time or the space to "eat the rainbow"- I know I sure as heck don't on any given day, so I make sure I am taking supplements with my meals and snacks. I currently swear by:
- A probiotic specifically for women
- Collagen
-Vitamin B complex (I get the needle when I can but pills work fine too)
-Magnesium before bed
-L Carnatine for amino acids
- Green Powder to mix in with water for a quick "green juice" on the go- currently loving the Arbonne one!
7. Microneedling. I'll spare you my comments about my acne journey- because if you're reading this it's likely that you're already well aware. I've recently started Microneedling, although I did try this in 2018 in preparation for my wedding. Microneedling has minimized my acne scars and it promises to give you back years worth of lost collagen, erase fine lines, keep skin clear, make skin looks healthy and juicy, etc etc. Experts recommend 3 treatments a year, 6-8 weeks apart. This procedure can be pricy, so it is truly an investment in your skin. Make sure you only go to a qualified professional for this service.
8. Overlined lips- this made a comeback in 2024 and I need to ask, why? It looks so bad, it's not the vibe, it looks so fake. What happens when it starts to wear off? Why are you drawing literal crayon on your skin and pretending it's lips? Just, no. This needs to stay in 2024, please.
9. Eyelash extensions. Disclaimer: not all eyelash extensions are created equal. I know many women that get them and they look great. Fun fact: I hustled my butt off at Sara's salon doing eyelash extensions for 2 years to put myself through a post-graduate degree. But the girlies that are lash blind and are getting the caterpillar lash fills every two weeks.... less is more baby boo. And I too, was lash blind once. . On the other side of this coin, if the thick lashes are what keeps your sanity and overall well-being in check, then by all means please continue. I am not shaming you- I just want to see more of the girlies to start embracing their natural beauty, because it has been so freeing for me and I truly believe it exudes health and confidence in conjunction. Remember, confidence is quiet, insecurity is loud.
10. Last but not least, a hot ticket item that has been the subject of many-a- Tik Tok, Instagram reel, and magazine article: The Dyson Airwrap.
Let me preface this by saying, I would never, ever, have purchased this for myself. My lovely boyfriend, who is an engineer and is naturally tech-curious and gadget obsessed, gifted me the Dyson hairdryer for Christmas last year, and the Airwrap for Christmas this year. My honest review on this product is as follows (spoiler alert- It's worth it):
The multistyler (which is the one I use) comes with six attachments, which are crucial in transforming this product into multiple tools. You will NO LONGER need a flat iron or curling wand- although I did keep mine just in case I ever wanted to switch it up. There’s a 1.2-inch barrel, a 1.6-inch long barrel, a firm smoothing brush, a soft smoothing brush, a round volumizing brush, and a prestyling dryer. It's meant to be used on wet/damp hair as both a dryer and a styler. There’s definitely a steep learning curve here, and this took some adjusting as I learned how to use it, and I didn’t find Dyson’s instructions, either printed or on the site, particularly illuminating. I actually tried it the first time before a night out, so the pressure was on but once I got the hang of it, it was exactly like riding a bike, and I've never had such bouncy, blowout curls-esque hair (or so many compliments in a single evening). This gadget delivers salon-level blowout curls and or waves in record time, without damaging your hair since it blows and sucks warm air, not hot. I am actually obsessed.Had I got the Airwrap first, I probably wouldn't have needed the blowdryer, but I do still love it.
Knowing all this- would I spend the money? Maybe. It's one of those things that you won't miss until you have tried it. But once you try, you'll never go back.
At the end of the day, this is my subjective take on what I'm loving—and not loving—right now. Trends come and go, but there's something timeless about the beauty of simplicity. It’s ironic, because I grew up in a generation consumed by beauty culture, fleeting fads, even body shaming, and the pressure to conform. But my journey toward self-awareness and self-love has been nothing short of eye-opening. The "less is more" mantra has become a guiding principle for me. These are the things that help me feel my best, which in turn helps me look my best—creating a positive cycle I can truly get behind.
